SOME BEATLES TRIVIA
- Their name "The Beatles" was inspired by the movie "The Wild Ones". The women of the motorcycle gang were called "beetles". The spelling was changed to include the musical word "beat".
- Paul wrote "Lovely Rita, Meter Maid" after getting a ticket from a female meter maid on Abbey Road
- "Hey Jude" was written by Paul to cheer up John Lennon's son, Julian, after his parents divorce.
- "Dear Prudence" was written about Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence in India
- Yes, Pete Best was the original drummer for The Beatles before Ringo Starr
- There was another member of The Beatles - Stu Sutcliffe - Paul was his replacement after he died in 1961
- The original name of The Beatles was "The Quarrymen", changed to "Johnny and The Moondogs" in 1959, then "The Beatals", "The Silver Beetles", "The Silver Beats", "The Silver Beatles" and finally, in 1960, "The Beatles"
- George Harrison was ill with the flu for their first Ed Sullivan appearance and only made it on after a doctor's "house" call and a lot of medication
- All of The Beatles except John Lennon have made a guest appearance on The Simpsons. Unfortunately, John was killed prior to the creation of the Simpsons. John Lennon and Bart Simpson, I'm sorry we missed that.
- "Yesterday" started without lyrics, Paul sang about scrambled eggs as he wrote the music
- In the song "Let It Be", the reference to "Mother Mary" is a reference to Paul's own mother who died when he was 14
- The song "Julia" is about John's mother who was killed in a car accident when John was 17
- The original title for the "Abbey Road" album was "Everest", "Abbey Road" was actually a joke title proposed by Ringo
- In 1964, The Beatles refused to play at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville Florida until guaranteed the audience would be unsegregated
- The song "Come Together" was originally written as a campaign song for Timothy Leary's 1969 bid for Governor of California
- The "White Album" is actually titled "The Beatles" when released in 1968
- Paul wrote the melody to "When I'm Sixty Four" when he was 15. The lyrics were written in 1966 the year he father turned 64. Paul turned 64 on June 18th, 2006.
- "I Am The Walrus" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" were both inspired by the famous children's author, Lewis Carroll and his books
- The Beatles received their "MBE's" (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 1965. John Lennon returned his in 1969 to protest the Vietnam war
- The Beatles performed their last concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29th, 1966. I was there.
- Their last ever live performance was on the roof of the Apple building in Savile Row in January of 1969
- The last Beatles song ever recorded was "I, Me, Mine"
- The Beatles officially broke up in April of 1970
- John Lennon was shot dead by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980-
- George Harrison passed away from cancer on November 29th, 2001
