Yes, Virginia, there was sex in the olden days!
Ingredients: White Rum, Cognac, Cointreau, Lemon Juice, Lemon Twist
A little known relative to the Sidecar, the Between the Sheets Martini is aptly named. The snickering idea being that after imbibing a couple of these that's exactly where you might end up.
Where a Sidecar consists of Brandy (Cognac), Cointreau and Lemon Juice, the Between the Sheets has the added element of White Rum - hence the added potency and the additional possibility of dangerous sheet slipping!
Rumor has it that it was created at the Berkeley Hotel in London in 1921 or possibly at Harry's New York Bar sometime in the 1930s, thus bringing sexual innuendo to happy hour long before Sex on the Beach was a twinkle in some yuppie barkeep's eye!
The Between The Sheets cocktail is a member of the sour family of cocktails so a sugar rim is a nice way to balance out the tartness from the lemon but it's not part of the original recipe.
