THE BLOOD ORANGE MARTINI - A - RITA
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo with a Frozen Margarita Martini

Ingredients: Tequila, Triple Sec, Blood Orange Juice, Lemon Juice, Himalayan Pink Salt

This martini-rita was specially formulated for Cinco De Mayo which is why I chose to go with a frozen margarita style cocktail and also why I chose the blood orange. Not only does the blood orange have a rich and complex flavor that adds a lovely, depth to this martini, but it is also a symbol of blood shed in the struggle for freedom.

Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day (September 16th, 1821), it is a Mexican civic holiday that commemorates Mexico's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.

The path to this victory was paved with wars, struggle and blood which is why I chose the blood orange for this fruit flavored "margarita-tini" or "martini-rita". You can read more about Cinco de Mayo on Wikipedia and you will then know why you are raising a glass on May 5th to Mexico!
