THE BOMB POP MARTINI
Because the Ice Cream Truck drove down my road and made me feel like a kid again!
Ingredients: Bacardi Razz, Cherry Vodka, Limeade, Sugar, Grenadine, Maraschino Cherry
The BOMB POP MARTINI is a really delicious concoction of raspberry rum, cherry vodka and limeade that captures those nostalgic flavors of the Bomb Pop frozen treat from the fifties and sixties. You can now enjoy that wonderful retro ice cream bar with a little more sophistication and an adult kick in this martini!
This martini and the whole series of ice cream and popsicle martinis was inspired by an ice cream truck driving down my road. I had not heard or seen one of those in decades and immediately ran out like I had when I was a kid - only this time I grabbed more than a nickle.
A LITTLE POPSICLE - FUDGSICLE HISTORY
The Popsicle was invented by Frank Epperson in 1905 when he was only eleven years old. Young Frank had been mixing flavored powders with water to make his own pop. He left the stirring stick in the bucket, the temperatures dropped below freezing that night and in the morning he woke up to frozen pop on a stick. He never forgot about his flavored icicle and seventeen years later he brought the "Epsicle" to market at Neptune Beach in Alameda, California. According to the story his children convinced him to rename his Epsicle "Popsicle" and a pop culture food phenomenon was born which expanded to include Creamsicles, Fudgesicles, Dreamsicles and more!
This "atomic" named treat got me thinking about growing up in the fifties with the cold war, the space race and how we named some of those retro treats.
