THE BRANDY ALEXANDER MARTINI
Kick up your heels with a cocktail from yesteryear
Ingredients: Brandy, Dark Creme de Cacao, Heavy Cream, Nutmeg
Based on the cocktail known simply as the Alexander which uses gin instead of brandy, The Brandy Alexander is made with dark Creme de Cacao. If it's made with white Creme de Cacao it's known as a Panama.
The Brandy Alexander was reportedly created for the wedding of Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood and Viscount Lascelles, in 1922, although well known opera critic Alexander Dragon claimed this cocktail was named after him.
Brandy Alexanders were a favorite of Beatles Ringo Starr and John Lennon. Lennon often referred to the drink as a milkshake during his "Lost Weekend" era. A Brandy Alexander really does taste like a chocolate milkshake with a kick which is why it's often served as a dessert cocktail.
