The CHOCOLATE and ROSES MARTINI
A Valentine in a Martini Glass

Ingredients: Vanilla Vodka, White Creme de Cacao, Rose Water, Grenadine, Edible Rose Petals

Since the traditional gifts on Valentine's Day are roses and chocolate, I thought it would be nice to combine them for a perfect Chocolate and Roses Valentine Martini.

Roses and rose water are both edible and have been used in cooking and drinks for centuries. In Malaysia, rose water is mixed with milk, sugar and pink food coloring to make a sweet drink called a bandung. Edible roses and rose water are also becoming increasingly popular in today's haute cuisine and designer cocktail market.

You can buy both online but make sure they are certified "edible" or organic so there are no pesticides to contaminate them. You can also make your own rose water:

Simply fill a large cooking pot with certified edible/organic rose petals then pour boiling water over them until they are completely covered. Let this steep until cooled, then cover and refrigerate overnight. Stain to remove the rose petals and store the rose water in a glass bottle with cap. This should keep at least a week in the refrigerator.

You can also freeze some of the rose water in ice cube trays for later use - put in one single rose petal in some for a really attractive garnish for drinks on the rocks too! Put the frozen cubes in a plastic baggie and keep frozen and the flavor and aroma will last for several months.
