THE PINK LADY MARTINI
A classic pink cocktail for classy women
Ingredients: gin, Grenadine, Light Cream, Egg White, Pink Jimmies - Sprinkles
The Pink Lady is a classic cocktail best known as a "girly drink" for it's pink color. Bartender Jack Townsend stated in the 1951 The Bartender's Book that "the non-threatening appearance of the Pink Lady may have appealed to women who did not have much experience with alcohol"
Interestingly, this is not a girly drink when it comes to alcohol content and taste! It's actually quite a dry cocktail and it's main ingredient is gin with just teaspoons of cream, Grenadine and some pasteurized egg whites.
Sorry Charlies, if it doesn't have cream, it's not a Pink Lady - not according to the ABA! And double Sorry Charlies if you miss an excellent cocktail beloved in the 1930s just because it's pink!
Back in those days regular egg whites were used but I use pasteurized just to be safe. Originally this recipe called for Plymouth Gin which has a deeper juniper flavor to it but I stick with a standard gin.
No doubt there were a lot of slightly tipsy "ladies" out there in the old days. This may be a pink girly drink but it packs a macho wallop!
