THE SPARKLING POMEGRANATE MARTINI
"Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve.  Middle Age is when you’re forced to." ~ Bill Vaughan

Ingredients:  Pomegranate Vodka, Pomegranate Juice, Champagne, Pomegranate Seeds, Sugar

With the popularity of pomegranate juice raging, this has become my most popular New Year's martini. In fact, it's become one of my top rated martinis!

It is delicious. It has a refreshing tartness balanced by the sugar rim and cut by the Champagne float. It's also a nice festive color!

Why do we stay up late on New Year's Eve Anyway?
The custom has its origins in China, where family and friends would get together and stay up past midnight to ward off the “Nian” monster, a man eating beast capable of swallowing several people at once.

This monster would terrorize villages near midnight at the end of every year looking for food. The villagers lived in terror until a wise man told them Nian was afraid of loud noises and the color red. So, every year from then on, the villagers stayed up late, lit up their houses, set off firecrackers, banged gongs and papered their homes in red to ward off the evil Nian monster!
