THE SPRING DONE SPRUNG HERB MARTINIS
Herb gardeners who work extra get thyme and a half.
Ingredients: Gin or Vodka, Dry Vermouth, Club Soda, Fresh Herbs
When the first lovely little green shoots popping up in my outside herb garden it's time for some Spring Herbal Martinis!
This is basically a classic vodka martini that is infused with your favorite fresh herb. The key to these herb martinis is simply to muddle your fresh herb with the vodka before you add the other ingredients and shake the martini. You can easily substitute gin for the vodka if you prefer a classic gin martini but keep in mind how the juniper will combine with the chosen herb.
Here's some fun facts about fresh herbs:
- Fresh herbs contain more antioxidants than some fruit and vegetables - and antioxidants fight cancer and heart disease!
- Growing basil in your kitchen will help ward off flies and mosquitos who don't like the odor.
- Rosemary is rich in antioxidants - antioxidants also increase vitality and slow the aging process!
- Chives have a beneficial effect on the circulatory system, lowering blood pressure.
- Dill is effective for the treatment of colic, gas and indigestion.
- Parsley is a natural breath freshener.
