I didn't set out to become The Martini Diva. By profession I am an illustrator and graphic designer known as Pop Art Diva. As an artist I love art , especially glass art and I have collected hand blown glass and antique martini glasses for years.

There is something about a martini glass that brings to mind visions of handsome, mysterious men in tuxedos and glamorous women in elegant cocktail dresses living life with passion and laughter, all while enjoying that king of cocktails, The Martini.

The ritual of shaking up, pouring and enjoying a martini is all part of that glamour and it lent a little of that "martini mystique" to my happy hour enjoyment.

The only problem with my fantasy was I have never been particularly fond of classic martinis! I like variety in my cocktails as well as in life, I wanted to match my cocktail to my mood and I was not often in the mood for what amounts to straight gin or vodka! My beautiful martini glasses languished in my china closet!

When new and unique cocktails started appearing in martini glasses around me during happy hour my interest was piqued. There were pink martinis and green martinis and blue martinis popping up in chic bistros and bars from coast to coast. The era of what I call the Designer Martini had arrived and I was hooked.

Suddenly, my bar exploded with exotic bottles of infused vodkas, liqueurs from far away places and garnishes with some imagination! My artistic nature had met my fondness for cocktail hour and they gave birth to The Martini Diva!

I fused my love of martini glasses, designer martinis and art and started publishing my first martini recipes on a blog in 2006 and haven't looked back at a boring happy hour since!

For me martinis are more than having a drink - they bring an atmosphere of celebration and a sense of elegance of days gone by to the cocktail hour. Martinis are not just a cocktail, they're a lifestyle!
